Future-proofing Access Control: Say Goodbye to Biometrics
During the COVID pandemic, one of the challenges faced by GymNation was how to offer a secure way to access the gym. Their previous system was set up with two-factor authentication using a fingerprint and branded RFID card authentication to enter the gym. This way, lost or, even worse, stolen cards couldn’t be used, as they were linked to the gym member. While it adds to the gym's security, a faster, easier, and more intuitive solution was needed, one that didn’t rely on tactile biometrics.
That’s when HealthPOS was consulted for a new robust, theft-free access control security system that can be implemented on any scale. This is especially important for a growing gym such as GymNation, as they are opening a new location this year. Additionally, the solution should be future-proof to make room for their growth while providing a safe environment for current members.
The Right Hardware as the Foundation for Operational Efficiency
The right hardware improves operational efficiency – and the best part, it doesn’t have to be hard to implement. In fact, the testing takes the longest: HealthPOS tested a few software and hardware systems with GymNation before deciding on the rotating QR mobile access control using Gantner’s GC7 controllers and the Newland FM3080 Hind stationary fixed-mount scanner.
The FM3080 Hind is optimized for reading barcodes on screens such as mobile phones, and the scanning technology made it easy to implement. All that’s needed is to configure, which was easily done via plug & play the scanner so it operates exactly how you want it. Then they are easily wired and powered into Gantner's GC7 controllers, which are also a breeze to set up and configure. When the QR is read, the gym members get an audio and visual cue for confirmation.
